Getting Started

For a fine lawn its important to prepare the soil or tilth onto which the turf will be laid. Drainage is often an issue in North London as the underlying soil is commonly clay which has a very slow infiltation rate, so slow drainage. This can be aided by installing drainage pipes and integrating a course mix of sand into the top layers to improve drainage.

The topsoil used is normally a 4mm sieved soil with added sand and this provides a suitable base for good turf.

It is also advisable to install irrigation at this stage to keep the lawn in top condition.
